Women and Youth Empowerment Programs – Help in Restoring their Future
Women are often a double disadvantage because of poverty and gender discrimination. Thus economic empowerment for women is a cornerstone for building sustainable communities. It has widely seen that women and girls in developing countries face greater gender inequalities because of lack of basic education. Such inequality is often seen in our society. The implications of a women’s inability to learn are substantial and far-reaching.
PLATFORM for
the NEEDY have a special focus on empowering women and girls in order to
overcome poverty, injustice and gender-based violence. This also includes working
effectively to engage women and youth in rebuilding themselves.
Women’s
empowerment programs seeks to advance a knowledge community on the challenges experienced
by the young mothers, their neglected children and the negative effects of
early/teenage pregnancies in Rwenzori region.
Women and youth empowerment programs aims at empowering the teenage mothers who are spiritually, socially and economically deprived. At PLATFORM for the NEEDY, we are seeking to ensure that the girl child manoeuvres her rights, voices heard and she is also protected from young motherhood through continues sexual and empowerment trainings.
The program aims
to empower 200 teenage mothers from the sub-regions of Karangura, Bukuuku,
Kicwamba and Harugongo in Kabarole district, Rwenzori region by suggesting them
life training and a golden opportunity to go back to school which aid in restoring
their future and economically empowering them.
Economic
empowerment is central of women’s ability to overcome poverty, cope with shocks
and improve their well-being. Women needs to realize their economic goals to
walk with men and make equal participation with men in different streams like
formal labor force, land and property ownership and easy access to financial
services like credit and savings.
Approaches
customized to reach women must disclose and overcome the multiple obstacles
that can leave many women trapped in poverty. PLATFORM for the NEEDY girl or women's empowerment programs focuses on increasing women skills,
decision-making power and easy access to economic resources. Truly income-generating
activities aid women realize their financial goals and overcome persistent and
gender-based barriers. On becoming a ingenious economic agents, women can
easily take control of their future and support their families and community.
Girls empowerment programme promote skills
building, self-esteem, access to information and resources, and community
action that help women become a good decision maker and leaders in their homes
and communities.Women also learn how to improve their lives on subjects such as
health, hygiene, agriculture, legal rights, livelihood and other issues.
PLATFORM for the NEEDY
women empowerment programs seek to address underage pregnancy, nutrition
for children, HIV/AIDS, sexual reproductive health rights, poverty and
illiteracy. The programs also offer young women gain economic empowerment,
self-esteem, education and life skills.
They help young mothers empower through offering basic skills training, equal education, livelihood improvement, weaving crafts, hairdressing, farming and microfinance training village funds. Undoubtedly, such community programs succeed in putting immediate or long-term impact on the lives of the young women.
